OliveRite FIELD GUIDE
A simple tasting at home
Compare a small amount of oil on its own, then try it with the food you actually cook.
Prepare the comparison
Use clean, neutral cups and label them. Taste a small amount at a comfortable room temperature, away from strong cooking aromas.
Notice the aroma
Describe what you notice in ordinary words: grassy, leafy, mild, fruity, or something else. Your notes are more useful than searching for a perfect adjective.
Notice the finish
Pay attention to bitterness, pepperiness, and balance. These observations can help you choose a style, but home tasting is not formal grade certification.
Try it with food
Compare the oils on bread, vegetables, beans, or a finished dish. Choose according to the flavor and role you want in the meal.
Keep the conversation grounded.
